The history of the Red Cross is inextricably linked with the name of the Swiss businessman Henri Dunant. In 1859, he watched the bloody battle of Solferino in Northern Italy, where many people died. When Henri Dunant returned to Switzerland, he proposed the creation of a society to help the wounded on the battlefield. This idea got a great public resonance and was realize on February 17, 1863, when the international Committee for the relief of the wounded was form. Later, it was rename in the international Committee of the Red Cross. With the Switzerland` support and initiative, a Diplomatic conference was happen in Geneva in 1864, at which delegates of 16 Countries accepted the Geneva Convention about improvement the destiny of wounded and sick soldiers in land war, which the beginning of modern International humanitarian law (IHL).
